NSSAR Commemorates National Hispanic Heritage Month
National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution Commemorates National Hispanic Heritage Month
In recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15 – Oct. 15), The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), one of the nation’s leading organizations in Revolutionary War education and genealogical research is celebrating the impact that Hispanic Compatriots made during the American Revolution.
It is vital that that the SAR acknowledges the contributions and sacrifices that were made by Hispanic individuals during the American Revolution. The SAR welcomes as members proven descendants of the Spanish army or colonial militia who served in a presidio or garrison in what is presently the United States of America, as well as those who made a donativo contribution or served under Gen. Bernardo de Galvez, including participating in the cattle drive from Texas to help feed the Patriots.
The SAR has a dedicated web page that offers various educational resources as well as videos from SAR members who tell the stories of their Hispanic Patriots. The web page can be found here: www.sar.org/spanish-ties-to-the-american-revolution
Please join us in celebrating the contributions of your ancestor to the Patriot cause by becoming a member of the SAR. If you are interested in becoming a member of the SAR, follow this link: https://www.sar.org/how-to-apply/
